Foundations of Chaplaincy (CTA-5100)


Description
CTA 5100 - Foundations of Chaplaincy is an online, self-paced course with 8 modules. You will earn 5 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and receive a signed Certificate of Completion after completing all assignments. Upon receiving the textbooks, you will be enrolled and have 90 days of access to complete the course.

Course Description: The course provides an overview of the nature and history of the chaplain’s identity, purpose, and functional roles. You will examine the biblical and theological foundations of a ministry of presence comprising the core of chaplaincy ministry. You also will review the various settings and organizations typically served by chaplains while exploring the commonalities, distinctives, expectations, and unique ministries of chaplaincy in the context of hospital, hospice, continuing care retirement community, military, correctional, workplace, industrial, college, pediatric and/or adults with disabilities, Veterans Affairs (VA), residential treatment, public safety, sports, crisis intervention, and disaster relief. Additionally, the course will develop biblical-theological knowledge, skills, and abilities for ministry leadership in chaplaincy. Supplemental areas of expertise will be introduced at a basic level focusing on specialized skills in pastoral, caregiver, and emotional/spiritual support for a chaplain. The emphasis is to develop a basic understanding of how chaplaincy impacts organizations with the message of faith and hope in governmental, public, corporate, not-for-profit, and institutional communities.
